Health and well-being

Please note this page is currently under development

Nottingham City takes an evidence-based approach to improving the health of a population and tackling health inequalities - either directly through health services, or alongside colleagues working in other areas or departments which may have an impact on health.

By identifying the specific needs of a group of people, we are able to implement or commission services to help address those requirements over a period of time. This includes prevention of illness, planning health services, and protecting the public from communicable diseases and environmental hazards.

Public Health traditionally breaks down into three areas:

  • Health Improvement
  • Health Protection and
  • Commissioning/services.

Particular areas of our remit include: tobacco control, substance misuse, sexual health, children and young people, mental health, heath promotion, obesity/physical activity, oral health, long term conditions, and older people.
