A housing needs assessment was undertaken by the Council in January 2005. It looked at all types of housing and tenure in the borough including local authority, RSL and private sector housing and the changes that have taken place to household types and sizes in recent years. This update to the original assessment was published in October 2012.
This Supplementary Planning Document on Affordable Housing has been prepared by Gedling Borough Council to help the Council secure affordable housing through the planning system. The document contains 3 key elements which will affect the delivery of affordable housing within the Borough:- *Threshold - the Borough Council will seek the provision of affordable housing on sites of 15 dwellings or greater *Percentage of affordable housing required - the Borough Council will require the provision of 10%, 20% or 30% affordable housing in different sub markets with the Borough: and *Commuted sums - affordable housing will normally be delivered on site. However, under certain circumstances, this may be waived in favour of a commuted sum.
Annual report based on up-to-date Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessments. The purpose is to monitor and review the housing supply against the housing requirement. Part A of the assessment shows that against the housing requirement of the East Midlands Regional Plan (2009), Gedling Borough Council does not have a five year housing supply plus a 5% buffer. Part B of the assessment shows that against the housing requirement of the Core Strategy Submission documents (2013), Gedling Borough Council has a five year plus 5% buffer supply of land for housing.
The purpose of this strategy is to establish the current and future demands for commercial and industrial property across Mansfield and Ashfield.
In 2011, the Council worked with Rural Community Action Nottinghamshire to ask people living in Newstead what they thought of their village, the housing it offers, and how it might change in the future. The conclusions of the study are that there is a need for different types of houses e.g. families with children require larger homes and for most people immediate problems such as anti-social behaviour and littering are seen as more important than long-term isseus such the housing offer of the village

Nottinghamshire Housing Plan
In 2009, The Council carried out the survey in partnership with Ravenshead Parish Council to learn more aobut who needed housing, and what type of housing should be provided in the future in Ravenshead. The conclusions of the study are that there is a need for both affordable rented and affordable ownership housing, and that the largest group of people who needed rehousing were older people, many of whom would like to downsize or access supported housing now or in the future.
This housing strategy replaces the Rushcliffe Housing Strategy 2004-2007. The Strategy is based around three themes: supply, quality, inclusion. It identifies strategic objectives and actions with an annual action plan identified at the end of the report. The options that were considered in formulating this response are detailed alongside the priorities that have been identified for future action. The Strategic Improvement Plan details the specific tasks that will be undertaken as part of the overall housing strategy and also outlines how this will be monitored.
