Nottingham has a higher proportion of younger people than the national average, which is partly due to the high number of students. Full time students account for approximately 1 in 8 of the population. The proportion of children is lower than the England average, although not for the under 4's. This suggests that although birth rates are comparatively high, a high proportion of children leave the city before starting school.
The JSNA chapters below outline some of the key health concerns for different groups of children and young people.
The 2026 Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire provides a comprehensive picture of the health, wellbeing, and lived experience of people with learning disabilities (LD).
